Glaucoma Evalution
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterised by progressive damage to the optic nerve. Unfortunately, it the leading cause of preventable blindness in New Zealand and around 50% of those people who have glaucoma don’t realise they have it.
Early detection of glaucoma is the only way to prevent permanent and debilitating vision loss. Fortunately, at Grant & Douglas Optometry we routinely screen for glaucoma during our comprehensive eye examination.
If we suspect you may have glaucoma, or feel you at high risk of developing it, we will recommend additional specialised testing such as visual fields and OCT. The good news is that with early detection and the right treatment, 98% of people with glaucoma will preserve their sight.
