Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Would you like the freedom to do the everyday things you love, without the hassle of having to wear glasses?  We are proud to offer Orthokeratology at Grant & Douglas (Ortho-K for short).

Ortho-K is a completely safe, and reversible treatment which uses contact lenses to gently reshape the surface of your eyes as you sleep.  When you remove the contact lenses after you wake up your vision is clear without having to wear your glasses!

Ortho-K is most suitable for myopic (short sighted) people and is also highly effective at slowing down the progression of childhood myopia.  It is a great alternative to laser vision correction, because it is completely reversible.

Talk to us about whether Ortho-K is suitable for you.

How Orthokeratology Works:

Candidates for Ortho-K:

Mild to moderate myopia (generally up to -6.00 diopters)

Mild astigmatism (up to -1.75 diopters)

People with hyperopia may also benefit, although it’s less commonly treated

Those who have healthy eyes and are not suitable for LASIK

Benefits of Ortho-K:

  1. Non-Surgical
Unlike LASIK or other refractive surgeries, Ortho-K provides a non-invasive way to improve vision, making it an attractive option for those who are not candidates for surgery or prefer not to undergo surgery.
  2. Ideal for Active Lifestyles
People involved in sports or activities where glasses or daytime contacts are inconvenient often find Ortho-K beneficial.
  3. Slows Myopia Progression in Children
Studies have shown that Ortho-K can slow the progression of myopia in children, making it a popular option for managing childhood myopia.
Orthokeratology offers a flexible and reversible option for vision correction without the permanence of surgery, making it an appealing choice for a wide range of people.
